CAP UCLA Presents A Conversation: Gloria Steinem and Jill Soloway

On Sunday, December 4, Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA is proud to present A Conversation: Gloria Steinem and Jill Soloway. Steinem and Soloway�are two extraordinary people who have devoted themselves to changing despair into hope. A remarkable meeting of two celebrated minds, Steinem and Soloway will sit down for in an intimate conversation in Royce Hall.

Gloria Steinem is a writer, lecturer, political activist, and feminist organizer. An iconic figure in the feminist movement, she has traveled the world as an organizer and lecturer and is a frequent media spokeswoman on issues of equality. Her interests include the shared origins of sex and race caste systems, gender roles and child abuse as roots of violence, non-violent conflict resolution, the cultures of indigenous peoples, and organizing across boundaries for peace and justice.

Steinem has been the subject of three television documentaries, including HBO's "Gloria: In Her Own Words." She received the Penney-Missouri Journalism Award, Front Page and Clarion awards, National Magazine awards, an Emmy Citation for excellence in television writing, the Women's Sports Journalism Award, the Lifetime Achievement in Journalism Award from the Society of Professional Journalists, among others.

Soloway is a celebrated and award winning writer, director, producer, and comedian. She's the creator of Amazon Studios' "Transparent," a dark, deep, silly family series about boundaries, love and secrets. "Transparent" has won consecutive Emmy Awards for Outstanding Directing For A Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actor In A Comedy Series in 2015 and 2016. The Amazon series has also won Golden Globe, Satellite, Critics' Choice and GLAAD awards.

Soloway won the dramatic Directing Award at the 2013 Sundance Film Festival for her feature film, "Afternoon Delight," starring Kathryn Hahn and Jane Lynch. Soloway's work also includes writer and co-executive producer roles for HBO's original series, "Six Feet Under." She is the co-founder of Wifey.TV, a website designed to give women access to smart, humorous, topical video content online.

Center for the Art of Performance at UCLA (CAP UCLA) is dedicated to the advancement of the contemporary performing arts in all disciplines -- dance, music, spoken word and theater, as well the emerging digital, collaborative and cross-platforms created by today's leading artists.

A Conversation: Gloria Steinem and Jill Soloway will be held at 7 p.m. on Sunday, December 4 at CAP UCLA's Royce Hall, 340 Royce Dr., Los Angeles, CA. Tickets are $29-59.
