Kiehl's Celebrates 50 Years of Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion

To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Kiehl's Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion, the 163-year-old skin care company unveils a new Limited Edition bottle inspired by one of the formula's most famous fans.

Since debuting in the early 60's, "the blue stuff," as it's known by loyal fans, has reached product icon status, generated legions of loyal celebrity fans, including Andy Warhol. To commemorate the 50th anniversary of Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion, Kiehl's has introduced a Limited Edition bottle designed by renowned photographer and Andy's friend, Christopher Makos, who captured Warhol's essence in frequent portraits through the years.

Says Makos, about the collaboration, "Andy Warhol related successful art to successful business. Kiehl's is great to work with because they 'get it.' I'm happy because when people ask me what I'm doing I can say, "I'm in cosmetics."

Since the formula first debuted in the early '60s, Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion has sold nearly 900 thousand bottles in the last 5 years and even found a home in the permanent archives of The Smithsonian National Museum of American History.

As we celebrate the anniversary of one of our most enduring formulas, we also wanted to celebrate our long relationship with the art world, by inviting one of Warhol's most frequent collaborators to partner with us," said Chris Salgardo, President, Kiehl's US. Since its inception in 1964, Kiehl's Blue Astringent Herbal Lotion has wowed customers with its wide range of uses. A worldwide medicine cabinet staple for 50 years, it has inspired many facial toners in the industry today. This multi-purpose herbal lotion can be used as a spot treatment for "problem areas," as an all-over toning agent to remove excess dirt and help control surface oil, and even as a pre-shave prep and/or a post-shave soother for men.
