Though she won't be on many more episodes of "The View," current co-host of the long-lasting ABC daytime talk show Jenny McCarthy is still making headlines for controversial comments.

On July 22, McCarthy and the other hosts of "The View" were discussing a new book by Ronald Kessler, "The First Family Detail: Secret Service Agents Reveal the Hidden Lives of Presidents," which claims Bill Clinton has a mistress nicknamed "The Energizer. " McCarthy then joked that Hillary Clinton may be a lesbian, saying Bill and Hillary have a marital "arrangement," the Huffington Post reports.

"Well, maybe he has his girlfriends and she has her girlfriends, you never know," McCarthy said. "Maybe they have an arrangement."

On Friday, McCarthy, 41, backpedaled and discussed her remarks in a blog post called "Anti-Gossip Girl" for the Chicago Sun-Times' Splash Chicago.

She admitted that she uses jokes on "The View" because she is out of her comfort zone. In another segment on last week's show - soon after she made the joke about the Clintons -- McCarthy expressed her support for female empowerment. She writes she could not deny that there was a problem with her comments:

A few topics later, we talked about a female CEO not helping other women in her workplace and my spiritual side felt excited to get out my personal mission statement about "girl code." I stated that we women need to look out for one another. That we need to stop ripping on each other and empower one another. This is something that is very important to me and I hold so close to my heart. That night, as I lay in bed and reflected on my day, I realized I was a hypocrite. How could I make a joke like that and then five minutes later preach about female empowerment? It makes me sad when I see women ripping on other women, and there I was making a joke about our possible first female president!

She added: "I'm a worker in progress. I hope you will be patient with me as I continue to figure myself out and grow to be the example of female empowerment I always intend to be."

It was revealed last month that "The View" officials were firing McCarthy and co-host Sherri Shepherd, leaving only Whoopi Goldberg left of the current cast. Rumor has it that Rosie O'Donnell will return to the program.

Last month, McCarthy came under fire for tweeting an anti-trans "joke." The actress deleted the tweet soon after it was posted, but it was reported the joke was about rumors of Jennifer Lopez's boyfriend, Casper Smart, who was accused of cheating on the pop star with a transgender bikini model.

"Did Jennifer Lopez' boyfriend cheat with a transsexual model? I Heard JLo gave him an ultimatum: 'it's either me or her/him!" McCarthy tweeted to her 1.17 million followers.

Several Twitter users wrote back to the star, calling her out for her offensive remark.
