Italian police say that a priest allegedly stole cash from a convent so he could pay his gay lover for sex, Gay Star News reports.

Authorities have not released the name of the priest, or how much money he allegedly stole from the nuns, but say he the cash was entrusted to him by nuns from a convent located in the northern province of Belluno, in the Veneto region. It has a population of about 200,000.

The priest allegedly used the money to pay his young Moroccan lover for gay sex. The two men have apparently had a "long-standing relationship," according to GSN.

The Italian daily newspaper Il Gazzettino reports the bishop of the diocese immediately dismissed the priest under "health reasons."

Police are currently investigating the incident.

In 2013 the Catholic community was rocked by a scandal when it was revealed that gay hookup sites for priests existed. The site operates on a public blogspot platform and even had its own Twitter account.
