Storm Large's Holiday Ordeal
READ TIME: 2 MIN.
Named "sensational" (The New York Times) and "an intoxicating and unmissable cocktail of power and vulnerability" (The Times UK), Storm Large comes to the Fine Arts Center for one night only of her killer vocals, contagious laughter, and wicked charm. She presents "Storm Large's Holiday Ordeal," a grown-up themed take on the joys, trials, and tribulations of the holidays at the Fine Arts Center Concert Hall on Wednesday, December 5 at 7:30 pm.
Storm Large has been singing around the globe for 18+ years, earning her the title of "punk goddess" by Playboy magazine. With career beginnings as the lead singer of Storm and the Balls in Portland, OR, she rose to national prominence in 2006 as a finalist on the CBS reality competition show "Rock Star: Supernova," where, despite having been eliminated the week before the finale, Storm gained a loyal fan base still following her today.
Storm is widely known for her guest vocalist appearances with Pink Martini for the past seven years, making her debut in 2011 with four sold-out concerts at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC. She continues to perform with the eclectic pop orchestra, touring nationally and internationally, and was featured on their album "Get Happy." Storm has also sung with k.d. lang, pianist Kirill Gerstein, punk rocker John Doe, Rufus Wainwright, George Clinton, and Liza Minnelli.
Storm and her band, Le Bonheur, continue to experience great success touring concert halls. In 2014, they released "Le Bonheur," an album exploring their sublime and subversive interpretations of the Great American Songbook. As a soloist, Storm's musical career includes performances with the Detroit, San Francisco, Vancouver, and Houston Symphonies, the New York Pops, the Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra, the Pasadena Pops, and engagements at the U.S. Capitol, Grant Park Music Festival in Chicago, Carnegie Hall, and the Kennedy Center.
A performer with multiple extraordinary gifts, Storm Large has also experienced success in the theater. In 2007, Storm starred in Portland Center Stage's production of "Cabaret" with Wade McCollum, earning Large glowing reviews. Her next project, an intimate, autobiographical musical memoir, "Crazy Enough," played to sold out houses in 2009 for 21 weeks in Portland. Storm then toured a cabaret version of the show nationally and internationally at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Adelaide Festival in Australia, and Joe's Pub in New York City.
Storm's theater career also includes a starring role in Jerry Saks' production of Harps and Angels (2010) at the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles, a musical featuring the work of Randy Newman.
