An inquest has been opened into the death of a young gay actor who was found to have high levels of a date rape drug in his system, Metro reports.

Eiichi Nakajima, a 22-year-old Japanese man raised in Bolivia and living in the town of Reading, Berkshire just west of London, was found dead at his university in June. Pathologist Dr Rezan Guardi reported that the victim had fatal levels of Gamma Hydroxybutyrate (GHB) in his system — a "date rape" drug slipped into drinks of unsuspecting victims, that can leave them incapacitated — that ultimately caused his death.

A fledgling actor, Elichi "acted in a film that won best comedy and entertainment film in at the Royal Television Society West of England Student Awards," according to Metro. He had also served as lighting and sound director for a few other productions.

Elichi also blogged about his struggles with being openly gay, discussing the pain of being closeted when he was younger "because society has obligated me to do so" and being "terrified... of all the rejection and hate society has over us." He explained that he started his blog for this very reason, to convey his own painful experiences in order "to reach out to people, who are in need or just long for advice."

Metro reports that a full inquest will take place on January 11.
