MSNBC host Rachel Maddow is poking fun at the Proud Boys and Oath Keepers in a way only she can get away with.

During a discussion Tuesday night with her colleague Lawrence O'Donnell, Maddow confessed that she felt the names of the two right-wing groups "sound really gay," reported Newsweek.

Maddow made the remark as O'Donnell explained that the two groups are examples of semantic infiltration, when a person's argument is undermined by unknowingly adopting terms an adversary uses, such as "out and proud."

Maddow, the first openly gay prime time news host, was a little more politically uncorrect with her point of view.

"I will say that with both of those groups, particularly the Proud Boys but also a little bit with the Oath Keepers, I always have found them to be inadvertently funny, those names, not only because they defy reality as you're describing them, but because they both sound really gay," she said. "They both seem like they are referring to gay stuff, whether it is the Proud Boys in terms of gay pride, or the Oath Keepers thing if you've read a lot around the politics around gay marriage and about being able to say your I dos with your beloved."

Watch the exchange below and tell us, does she have a point? Maddow continued, "Both of those things, they have such a poorly-derived sense of camp and understanding about American subcultural text," she said. "And so, I've always felt like they're kind of playing themselves, but I am probably in the minority on that."
