Soccer Legend's Son Comes Out as Bi: 'Dad Won't Mind.'
The son of British soccer icon Paul Gascoigne (affectionately town as "Gazza" in his homeland) came out as bisexual in a newspaper interview last weekend - and admitted that he'd never told his father.
In an interview with The Mirror, 23-year-old Regan Gascoigne said, "I'm bisexual, I date men and women. I'm really open about that."
That openness did not, at the time, extend to his world-famous father, though.
"I haven't told my dad, but I don't think he will mind," Regan said, before adding: "He is proud of me whatever I do and whatever decisions I make."
If Paul Gascoigne sounds like the dad everyone wishes he had - supportive, understanding, and a soccer giant to boot - Gazza himself soon proved that he was not too good to be true, and his son's faith in him was not misplaced, reported British publication Attitude.
Regan is pursuing a career in the performing arts. He's been a contestant on a UK dance show, "The Greatest Dancer," and has shared the mic with singer Demi Lovato.
While speaking with The Mirror, Regan delved into a bit of family history - including an anecdote from his childhood about his father offering him soccer shoes, only for the young Regan to request a pair of ballet slippers instead.
The fact that Regan had not told his father about being bi is not so surprising given that father and son do not often have a chance to be together. Regan told the Mirror that he'd last seen Gazza when, after a performance, his dad gave him a literal shout out.
"We were in the middle of our bows and it goes quiet," Regan recounted. "Dad just stood up... and shouted 'I love you Regan.' I was so embarrassed — but trying not to laugh at the same time."
Added the young rising star, "Dad is always crazy... He's always up for a laugh."
