One Million Moms Wants Outback Steakhouse to Stick a Fork in Fox's 'The Mick'

Wednesday Oct 4, 2017

It's autumn and the kids are back in school, your favorite network shows are back with new episodes and a handful of religious right ranters are back - to tell you what you can't watch on TV.

Last week, One Million Moms (1MM), the media watchdog arm of the anti-LGBTQ hate group American Family Association, sent an action alert to their followers asking them to contact Outback Steakhouse and demand they pull their ads from Fox's Tuesday night comedy "The Mick."

"'The Mick' is back for a second season and continues to be one of the worst shows 1MM has seen, and that is saying a lot," wrote president Monica Cole. "This vulgar program is far from family-friendly, and with a TV-14 DLSV rating, you can be assured this will not be for family viewing. This irresponsible and tasteless program is inappropriate for any age, but unfortunately, the age of the primary cast members may attract young viewers."

"1MM recognizes this show ridicules people of faith and mocks Christianity," Cole continued. "Half of the content during Tuesday's episode was sacrilegious and scripture was also quoted irreverently during this destructive program."

"The victims of this outrageous show are the young cast members, not to mention any children who view the program. The sexualization and moral corruption of these children is child exploitation at its worst. No child should be subjected to a bondage gag, violence, cross-dressing, and sexual jokes," Cole concluded.

Cole's hope for success in getting Outback Steakhouse to cave to the demands of an anti-LGBT hate group affiliate is slim at best. According to HRC, the Australian-themed chain restaurant's parent company Bloomin' Brands is a gay-friendly corporation with non-discrimination policies, organizational LGBTQ diversity training, and full spousal benefits for gay and lesbian employees.

And while Cole's chances to pressure Outback are slim, they're absolutely nil with Fox. Variety reports that "The Mick" is a favorite with high-level executives at Fox.

"From the earliest stages of development, all of us at FOX had enormous faith in 'The Mick,' and it hasn't disappointed," said David Madden, president, entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company. "Kaitlin is a fearless comedic force, and the rest of the cast has just proven to be phenomenal. John and Dave Chernin have a very clear vision of what this show is, and they execute on that vision each week to perfection. We really couldn't be happier with 'The Mick,' and we're so thrilled to renew the series for a second season.

"The Mick" airs on FOX on Tuesday evenings at 9:00 p.m. ET /8:00 p.m. CT.
