Some Fans Think 'Glee' Star Kevin McHale Just Came Out on Instagram

Tuesday Mar 13, 2018

Did Kevin McHale, best known for his role on the beloved Fox musical-comedy "Glee," just come out as gay? Some fans think so.

The 29-year-old actor, who played Artie Abrams on the series, took to Instagram Monday and shared a black-and-white photo of his hand on top of another person's hand. He didn't provide a caption but added an emoji of a hand that is the meaning for "I love you in" in American Sign Language. The pic has major interest among his 917,000 followers, earning nearly 40,000 likes.

In another black-and-white photo posted early Tuesday, McHale is seen reading while a shirtless man is seen in the background with his back facing the camera. The caption for this snap reads: "My favorite way to be anti social."

Some fans are speculating the hand in the first photo belongs to Austin McKenzie, best known for his role in Deaf West's Broadway revival of "Spring Awakening." The two actors have appeared in each other's Instagrams and both appeared in Dustin Lance Black's LGBTQ-rights miniseries "When We Rise" last year.

One commenter said of the two men: "[T]hey've been spending a lot of time together lately. They look close and are often featured on each other's social media. It's not a huge stretch to think it's Austin's hand."

"My guess is it's @austineyes seeing as they're signing in this picture and austin is known for his asl," another commenter wrote.
